We are now working with some Icelanders whom we found to be extremely good birders, AND who know how to guide and provide the services that our clients expect in this type of tour. This is not a tour based in spas or fine hotels. You will be out in nature and in some of the world's best birding areas.and we expect that you'll be adding to your life list..
Accommodations are often in good country hotels. Not fancy, but all the lodgings have private facilities (i.e. bathrooms) and are clean and comfortable. For the multi-day tours we've worked out the details of travel, and extra nights' accommodations as needed, to help shave the costs to travelers and to make travel go smoother. Adding days to your trip to do other things in Iceland is no problem, or stringing one birding tour into another may suit your style. Our prices include airfare from the US, accommodations with breakfast. Since these bird tours appeal to a wide variety of travelers we can also help combine them with other tours. We (Holly and Brad) are not accomplished birders, but when we saw Gyrfalcons rise up from the roadside in a northern valley we knew exactly what we were experiencing and were riveted by it!
Walking on the glacial moraines and detritus from Route 1 in to the Vatnajokull glacier we met (confronted?) our first Great Skuas. We decided that they existed in two "states"; they looked to be carved from stone as they perched stolidly on the tundra. When they wheeled in the air their white wing patches appeared transparent and these huge, hulking creatures seemed to transcend their raw and rugged surroundings.. Coming across Harlequins during a rest at a rushing river while on a horse trading trip one May was another memorable "bird-shock". It feels good to be able to offer these tours to more serious birders and to others, more like ourselves, who just get a kick out of the novel, the rare and the beautiful in the less-traveled parts of earth. |
